Monogram Denim Canvas

The leather goods present a material emblematic of the ready-to-wear: Denim. Marc Jacobs has created the Monogram Denim Canvas in 2005.

The material is created from a rigorous selection of very high quality cottons, the canvas is meticulously woven on a jacquard loom in order to highlight the Monogram motif. The material is both supple and hard-wearing. To achieve a worn effect, the product is bleached and stonewashed. It is this technique that creates the distinctive vintage look.

Monogram Canvas

A symbol of Louis Vuitton since 1896, the Monogram canvas was created by the son of Louis Vuitton, George Vuitton. He began a campaign to build the company into a worldwide corporation, exhibiting the company's products at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. In 1896, the company launched the legendary Monogram Canvas and made the worldwide patents on it. Its graphic symbols, including quatrefoils and flowers (as well as the LV monogram), were based on the trend of using Japanese and Oriental designs in the late Victorian era. The patents later prove to be successful in stopping counterfeiting.

Monogram canvas combines durability, flexibility and lightness. It is entirely impermeable and highly resistant to surface scratches. It is perfectly suitable for all kinds of uses: daily, business and travel. Monogram is available in a complete collection of timeless styles enriched each year by new models for both men and women.

A Brief History of Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton
Biography
Born: 4 August 1821
Birthplace: Anchay, Jura, France
Died: 27 February 1892
Best Known As: Founder of the luxury monogrammed luggage company

Louis Vuitton, a trunk-maker in Paris since 1854, built his legend around travel by creating luggage, handbags and accessories that were as innovative as they were elegant. By 1888, he had his signature brown and tan checked pattern, and by 1896, the now iconic monogram that peppers its supple leather goods, including some instantly collective women’s bags—the Speedy, the Steamer, the Pochette—appeared. A century and a half later, the legend lives on. It is now enhanced by the brand's international renown for the originality and quality of its creations. This desire to always be in the forefront inspired Louis Vuitton to enter in the new expressive fields of ready-to-wear, shoes, watches, jewelry and sunglasses.
Since January 1997, Marc Jacobs has headed up the legendary house, rejuvenating it and putting it solidly at the top of the luxury list. Jacobs, who simultaneously designs his own juggernaut of a signature line, maintains a distinct yet stylish point of view at each.
