Marc Jacobs x Kaws - 10th Anniversary Mouse Flats

Marc Jacobs and Kaws has done a collaboration work to celebrate 10th Anniversary Mouse Flats. And here is what they came up, the sleek patent leather Mouse Flats. What makes it is more special is that they are limited to 200 pairs worldwide!

Where?: Colette (Paris), Original Fake (Tokyo) and Marc Jacobs flagship stores (US and London) will be the only stores that will carry these.

When?: Monday, September 29th.

What Marc Jacobs thinks about collaborations!?!?

Recently, New York Magazine had a chance to catch up with Marc Jacobs and asked what he thinks about Louis Vuitton's collaborations. Here is what the article said:

Marc Jacobs convinced Louis Vuitton to design handbags in collaboration with artists Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince. The resulting enthusiasm and sales numbers were enormous. The label's latest collaborative handbags, designed by Comme des Garcons' Rei Kawakubo in honor of Louis Vuitton's 40th anniversary, will go on sale Wednesday at a pop-up shop in Tokyo. In a lengthy article in WWD about the Kawakubo partnership, Marc Jacobs reveals that unlike the Murakami and Prince projects, he had no creative input on the bag collection Kawakubo created in Vuitton's signature monogram pattern. He also said he doesn't feel the need to continue the Vuitton collaborations despite pressure from the higher-ups and hinted he thinks they're getting a little out of control:

“I’ve kind of warned everybody up there that I think they’ve gotten a little too into this idea which, I mean, is great,” Jacobs said. “I’m glad that everybody gets behind it, but what they don’t realize is that I do it at a pace that maintains the brand’s integrity and seems really right, and I think that sometimes everybody loves a good idea so much that they kind of go too far and it kind of kills it.”

So is the next Louis Vuitton collaboration further off than we might have thought? Is it coming at all? Could Marc be shifting his obsessive energies from contemporary art to something else? Whatever he cooks up next, we can't imagine he won't deliver."

Marc Jacobs up for an interview!

Marc recently visited Central Saint Martins school in London for the interview and here is what he said during an interview:

On designing his first ready-to-wear collection as the newly appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton in 1997:

“This Vuitton thing was scary … Suddenly you’re on the Paris stage, with this huge name. I felt so paralyzed by it. That first collection was a no-win situation. I thought, if I give them what they expect, they’ll be disappointed because they wanted to be surprised. If I give them a surprise, they’ll be disappointed because it wasn’t what they were expecting.”

On the difficulties of getting his spring 2001 Stephen Sprouse monogram collection for Louis Vuitton produced:

"I don't understand corporate people — I always say the design team's on the second floor and the corporate people are on the fifth floor, and it might as well be the distance between here and Mars … The press reaction to all that graffiti was so amazing … [but] they bitched and moaned, [saying] 'we're not going to do it'. I just couldn't believe it … at the time, that's how narrow-minded they were … [but] $300 million later, they think it's a good idea!"

On hiring Tom Ford to design denim for Perry Ellis when Jacobs headed the label:

"Tom was a different person then … Tom was this very, very sort of haughty, tasteful person, very Waspy … or that's what he was affecting at that moment. I thought it would be great to do a jean line with someone who has a very sophisticated mind."

On what fashion really is all about:

"When I trust my own whims, and the whims of people I trust, I feel that has credibility … Belief is embedded in everything you do — so it doesn't actually matter whether people like it. I guess what we do, as a team, is a daily, weekly, monthly re-evaluation of whims."

The quote that will make you say "word":

"I can't bear it when designers go on about inspiration … If a girl wants to wear it and feels good then who cares?"

Crime of Fashion

May 15, 2008 -- A manager at a Marc Jacobs store in the West Village was busted for stealing $62,000 from the boutique, and admits he had "been doing it for a while," authorities said yesterday. - New York Post reported

Kyle Avila, 24, worked at the chic Marc by Marc Accessories store as a manager at 385 Bleecker St. for the past 11/2 years. The Kansas native, who also appeared nude for a Marc Jacobs tee, was busted for stealing $62,000 from the store.

Co-manager Mike Okerson was the one who noticed the missing dough while doing routine receipt reviews. Okerson had given Avila a chance to return the money, but Avila failed to show up with the money, so his colleague called the cops. He is now charged with grand larceny and remains in jail after failing to post $2000 cash bail set by the judge.

Which one would you go for?

I found this quite interesting and would like to share to you guys. Marc has recently designed two nearly identical floral rings, one is for "Marc by Marc Jacobs" and another is for "Marc Jacobs Collection". They both surely look nice but with one difference...price! It is USD32 for Marc by Marc Jacobs (left) and USD907 for Marc Jacobs Collection (right).

The USD907 ring is not gold but 14k gold plated and for the USD32 ring is silver. But I guess when the flower is on your hand, nobody gonna notice it.

However, I must admit the USD907 has a "hi-class luxury looking"?!? But at the end, it's your choice.^^ We all love Marc!
